Earth Day Celebrations in TISVV

Every student of our school is sensitised to the urgent need to protect the environment and we celebrate Earth Week with a variety of activities each year, to honour the achievements of the environmental movement and raise awareness about  this issue.  We believe that even at a very young age, children must be made aware of this urgent issue. The little ones in Primary Wing all marked Earth Day in different ways, thus spreading the message and encouraging each one to think about the grave environmental challenges we face and how we should resolve them. Students of Class II discussed why we should conserve natural resources, why we should not waste paper or water. Students were given badges which they coloured in green and blue representing plants and water and wrote a slogan. They proudly wore the badges for the rest of the day. The students of Class III created their own ‘Bird Feeders’, thus engaging with nature and simultaneously enhancing their creative abilities. Students of Class IV students made trash bins for their respective tables out of waste materials, thus practicing the 3 R’s. Another instance of Reduce, Re-Use and Recycle was seen in Class V where students created self watering planters out of used plastic bottles, an excellent way of conserving water and keeping one’s plants hydrated if one is out of town. Students of Class VI made bookmarks related to Earth Day,  expressing their thoughts and feelings about Mother Earth. They also pledged to take care of the earth by taking small steps to make a difference. Class VII’s activity was focused on  creating useful items out of waste materials. They recycled materials like waste kulhads and plastic bottles to make pots to plant saplings. Planting trees and recycling is an important aspect of protecting Earth’s natural resources for future generations. The students of Class VIII  were encouraged to spend some time amidst nature. They had a refreshing experience which they were asked to express in the form of creative writing. Classes IX to XII held quizzes, discussion sessions, and watched videos in order to understand various aspects of environmental problems.  Climate change is a threat to the livelihood of people, to species and ecosystems. These small steps at the
school level create future citizens who are ready to work together to educate people about the environment, and act to make positive and sustainable changes to protect the earth that we all live on.
