Spoken sounds used to express one’s ideas got represented initially through visible signs and then through Cuneiform writing by Sumerians in ancient Mesopotamia more than 5000 years ago!Ms. Yachana Villaitrani on 08 May 2024 got the History students of class XI to experience writing on clay tablets and re-live the past times in a fun-filled activity.The History buffs, surprised each other by writing “messages of appreciation” using a self created Cuneiform-inspired script in the English language & made each other’s day. The activity was followed up by sharing of experiences and the challenges of writing on soft clay which enabled students to understand the challenges faced by Mesopotamian scribes back in the olden days.
On 10 May 2024 ,in the bustling meeting room of the skill club,What To Do When Doctor Is Not Around, students discussed the paramount importance of first aid. Their discussion highlighted how first aid transcends mere medical knowledge, extending into a realm of compassion and readiness to assist others in distress. They reflected on the empowering feeling of being equipped to handle emergencies confidently. As they exchanged ideas and experiences, the consensus was clear: first aid isn’t just a skill—it’s a mindset that embodies responsibility, empathy, and the potential to make a profound difference in the world.
In celebration of Earth Day 2024, the Green Teens of our school, comprised of students from Classes IX, X, and XI, joined forces with the Egghead Foundation, an organization dedicated to environmental sustainability. Together, they planted herbs and shrubs across our school campus. This collaborative effort aimed not only to enhance the beauty of our surroundings but also to provide a hands-on learning experience. Encouraging a deeper connection with nature and emphasizing the importance of biodiversity, this initiative imparted valuable lessons to our youth. Through teamwork and exploration of the diverse uses of these plants, students not only contributed to a greener campus but also expanded their knowledge and appreciation of the natural world.
The ‘Ru-b-ru’ inter-house competition, which took place on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, showcased a unique blend of creativity and intellect as participants engaged in a dynamic interview setup. This event highlighted the exceptional talents in impressions and acting of students from classes IX-XII. Each house was assigned eminent personalities who formed dynamic pairs, with one student acting as the interviewer and the other as the interviewee. These pairs presented captivating interviews on the theme “General Elections: Democratic or Not?” Through these engaging performances, the students effectively captured the essence of real-world elections. The performance required a deep understanding of both the character and the topic, ensuring a captivating and thought-provoking exchange. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the lively and engaging performances.
‘Extempore’ – An Inter-House on-the-spot speaking competition was organized for classes VI – VIII on Thursday, May 15, highlighting a remarkable display of spontaneity and oration as participants delivered impromptu speeches. Each participant spoke for two minutes, expressing views for, against, or neutral towards their topic. This challenging setup tested the students’ ability to develop a point of view on a general topic and express their thoughts concisely and coherently. Their speeches not only showcased their depth of understanding but also their ability to engage the audience under time constraints. The competition was fierce and filled with insightful commentary, leaving the judges thoroughly impressed. “Fun with Magnets” on 17 May 2024 was a toy based activity for the students of Class VI which provided an engaging and enriching experience, blending science with creativity. By creating their own signature fridge magnets, students not only explored the principles of magnetism but also expressed their artistic flair. The activity exemplified the integration of fun and learning, leaving students inspired and enthusiastic about science.
‘Vendetta’, the Inter-house Gaming competition for Classes IX to XII, was conducted in two rounds. Each house nominated two main players and a substitute from the senior classes to compete. The initial round, held online on 23 April 2024, involved Brawlhalla matches between teams representing the four Houses. The winning teams progressed to a surprise offline round on 25 April 2024, where FIFA was revealed as the game. Each player participated in one half of the match, with substitutes also taking part. The event drew an enthusiastic response from the audience, making it a memorable experience. On May 8, 2024, class VI students delved into MICR technology during their Science class. Through hands-on engagement with blank check samples and the MICR line, pupils explored Magnetic Ink Character Recognition. Discovering that magnetic ink, formed by mixing tiny magnet particles with liquid, is crucial for the 9-digit MICR code on bank cheques, students decoded its significance. The code’s first 3 digits represent the city code, the next 3 the bank code, and the last 3 the branch code. Encouraged to open bank accounts, learners embraced the importance of saving money and financial literacy. This experiential learning journey not only unveiled technological innovations but also fostered practical life skills.
On 8 May 2024 students of Class III showcased their creativity in Runway Revival, an intra class competition, crafting stunning dresses out of waste paper, plastic, and other recyclable materials. Their innovative designs not only highlighted their artistic talents but also demonstrated their commitment to both creativity and environmental stewardship. ‘Instant Eloquence’ – an Intra Class extempore competition, was organized for Class V on 7 May 2024. It aimed at fostering public speaking skills and quick thinking abilities by the participants. The contestants for this Final Round had already been selected through a pre-round on 29 April. The 18 selected participants were allotted their topics through a draw of lots and were given a little time to prepare before delivering their speeches. It has been said ‘A good speech is like a pencil; it has to have a point.’ The Extempore Competition proved to be an effective platform for the young speakers to demonstrate that they too have a point of view and are able to express their thoughts in an articulate manner.
