Igniting Creativity: A Conversation with Author Deepa Agarwal On May 3, 2024, students from Classes VII and IX were treated to an engaging author talk featuring Deepa Agarwal. Ms. Agarwal’s eloquent discussion on the intricacies of the writing process, peppered with personal anecdotes and literary insights, enraptured the audience. Throughout the session, students actively participated, posing insightful questions about character development, plot construction, and the journey to becoming a published author. Ms. Agarwal’s infectious passion for storytelling inspired the budding writers, encouraging them to delve into their own creative aspirations. This event provided an opportunity for students to directly engage with an accomplished author, fostering a deeper appreciation for literature and the craft of storytelling.
Bhangra Queens, a dynamic dance group dedicated to the revival of Bhangra, enthralled the audience in the school auditorium on 29 April 2024, as part of World Dance Day celebrations. Performing a vibrant medley of Punjabi dances, the troupe of seven women mesmerized students from Classes IV, V, and VI, inspiring them with their spirited performance. In addition to their captivating show, Bhangra Queens conducted a workshop for students, teaching them choreography to a popular Diljit Dosanjh song. The interactive session saw active participation, with some lucky students even chosen to perform on stage alongside the main artists. Emphasizing the importance of education, Bhangra Queens encouraged students to pursue knowledge alongside their passions, fostering a holistic approach to growth. The event showcased the group’s dedication to empowering young talents and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Bhangra.
Treat the Earth with the same love you have for yourself Earth Day goes beyond being just a date; it serves as a reminder of our duty to safeguard and cherish our planet. Since its inception in 1970, Earth Day has transformed into a global movement that transcends boundaries, cultures, and beliefs. Students at TISVV have always been deeply committed to conservation. Across primary, middle, and senior classes, students commemorated the day with various activities.In Class I, students created headbands to express their concern for the environment. By using biodegradable materials, they became more aware of the importance of using resources wisely and reducing waste. They wrote a pledge and proudly wore the headbands all day. Class II watched a video about Versova Beach, Mumbai, and learned about ways to protect our planet. They made Earth Day badges and pledged to reduce the use of plastic bags. Class III engaged in crafting upcycled creations that promoted sustainability and environmental awareness, turning discarded materials into art. These hands-on activities helped them develop a deeper appreciation for Earth’s resources and the significance of reducing, reusing, and recycling. With a focus on promoting environmental stewardship, Class IV learned about nurturing and caring for living things by growing their own plant. Through poster making, they expressed their commitment to protecting the Earth and its resources, culminating in a pledge to take concrete actions to conserve the environment. Class V celebrated the wonders of nature by creating terrariums. They realized that even small actions can contribute to conserving our planet’s precious biodiversity. The students proudly displayed their terrariums, showcasing the beauty of nature and their dedication to its protection.Students from Classes VI to VIII participated in various activities, including quizzes, competitions, and talent shows at a special assembly held to mark the day. The school’s talented singers and dancers presented a beautiful performance highlighting the importance of responsible water consumption, using the exemplary architecture of Rajaon Ki Baoli as an example. Senior classes watched a specially created video that sparked lively class discussions. Teachers also wore artistic badges designed by members of the creative Art Club.The message was clear: Take care of the Earth, and she will take care of you.
World Heritage Day, also known as International Day for Monuments and Sites, is celebrated on April 18 each year to honour and safeguard our cultural heritage. This year, the theme of World Heritage Day is ‘Discover and Experience Diversity.’ ITIHAAS ( a Trust promoting heritage, education and tourism and with the aim of connecting the paradigms of heritage with education) organized a special inter school event at the historic Purana Qila. Our team of five students Olivia Dey VIA, Saranya Khera VIIC, Amaira Singh VIIC, Faith Rinhlui Chongthu VIIIB and Vedant Bhardwaj VIIB had to research any city in India, along with its monuments and other heritage sites and asked to design a stamp that represented the city they had researched. Selecting Shillong, the students created an original stamp to capture the unique culture of this beautiful hill-station. The judges interacted with the team to assess their understanding on the topic. Our students won a Special Mention and received certificates for the same.
TIS, VV, in partnership with Pratisandhi, conducted sex education sessions for Classes VI and VIII. These sessions addressed emotional changes during puberty, providing insights and navigation strategies. Students learned to cope with peer pressure, understand attraction, and share feelings healthily. For class VIII, topics like rejection were sensitively handled, emphasizing healthy boundaries and consent understanding. Practical activities empowered students to safeguard their emotional well-being. For Class VI, emotional aspects of physical changes were explored, fostering understanding and providing coping mechanisms. Open dialogue and active participation created a supportive environment for students’ holistic growth.
‘By voting we add our voice to the chorus that forms opinions and a basis for actions’. Tagore International School,Vasant Vihar conducted elections for the post of Class Representative across Classes VI-XII on 24,April 2024 using electronic voting machines (EVMs) – definitely a first for most school students ! The initiative provided students with a firsthand experience of democratic processes. Using the EVMs created by science students and the Science faculty, student-voters cast their votes electronically, exactly mirroring the procedures of actual elections. This hands-on approach not only familiarized them with technological advancements but also instilled a sense of responsibility and civic duty. Students actively engaged in campaigning, debates, and voting, simulating a real-world electoral environment. The process emphasized transparency, fairness, and the importance of informed decision-making. TISVV commemorated World Heritage Day with diverse activities to connect students with India’s rich heritage: In Class II, students identified landmarks in Delhi they aspire to visit, engaging in discussions on preserving these monuments. Class III marked heritage sites on a map, discussing their importance for future generations. Class IV explored India’s heritage sites virtually, marveling at their architecture and significance. Class V learned about embracing diversity through an informative video on UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Classes VI-VIII had spirited discussions on the Relevance of World Heritage Day and enjoyed a Virtual Tour of India’s Monuments. These activities deepened students’ appreciation for India’s heritage and emphasized the need for preservation. Celebrating Heritage Day endorsed cultural awareness and respect for history.
The inclusive, secular and multicultural ethos of TISVV was clearly evident in the beautiful Eid celebration on 10 April 2024. The students were introduced to the story behind the festival (Eid al-Fitr means “the feast of breaking the fast.” The fast is Ramadan, which recalls the revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad and requires Muslims to fast from sunrise to sundown for a month ) A mellifluous quawwali presented in the traditional style and a very graceful dance choreographed to the Sufi number ‘Bismillah’ held the audience captivated. Celebrating all festivals with equal fervour is one of our special customs and encourages our students to grow into liberal and tolerant human beings
World Health Day is celebrated globally on 7 April every year to raise awareness about health-related issues and promote healthier lifestyles. In TISVV various activities were planned across the school on 5 April 2024 where students were encouraged to reflect on the importance of health and well-being, both physical and emotional.Some of the younger ones had an electrifying ‘Break a Leg-Dance Fitness Activity’ where they jumped, grooved, and danced their way to better health in a specially planned session. Some classes watched health related videos which led to a discussion among students on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Other children enjoyed an art therapy session promoting both stress relief and emotional well-being through creative modes of self – expression. Some classes were guided through a meditation and mindfulness session which is a valuable tool to help navigate life’s challenges. Middle Schoolers were taught to read the nutrition labels on packaged food items, thus guiding them towards healthy dietary choices. Students understood why food items containing high sodium, fats and sugars should be avoided.
‘Children learn as they play, more importantly, in play children learn how to learn’ said O. Fred Donaldson. Expressions, the Nursery and KG Annual Day was held on 24 February 2024. Vibrant music, dance and drama set the stage ablaze as our little Tagoreans captivated everyone with their enchanting performances. Invoking the blessings of Lord Shiva, the Nursery students began their presentation with a dance recital. Their play ‘Tale of the Jungle’ underlined the importance of helping others. There was humour to boot with the Akbar Birbal adaptation, ‘Chor ki Pehchan’. Adorable action songs and rhythmic dances had everyone in the audience mesmerized. The kindergarteners commenced with a graceful and synchronized dance rendition of the song Achyutam Keshavam. ‘A Year in KG’ gave a glimpse into the fun filled activities done in the KG class. Their play Pinocchio brought laughter and music to the stage and impressed everyone with the children’s abilities to act, sing and dance. They concluded with a spectacular and foot tapping dance as the grand finale.
