DISHA 7.0 Organised by Project Saksham

Project Saksham is one of our student driven campaigns which works for the empowerment of intellectually and physically challenged people. Disha is a signatureannual online event organized by this team, which provides an international platform for differently-abled individuals to participate in a plethora of competitions; namely music, dance, art, craft and photography, to showcase their talent. This year, Disha 7.0 culminated with the prize distribution being held on 19 July and 20 July 2024. An overwhelming response was received with over 300 entries from across the globe. The event was graced by guest speakers from countries such as Pakistan, Canada, the United States, Uzbekistan, Australia, along with the Indian audience. All the entries were highly appreciated by the judges. Certificates of participation and merit were given to all participants and winners. The core team comprising of Tishya Chandok (Campaign President) Prabhtej Singh (Campaign Vice President) Lavnika Nanda, Aradhya Bhola, Aarna Sapra along with all members of Project Saksham were the ones behind the success of this event.

Science Safari: An Immersive Learning Experience

Understanding science experientially allows school students to grasp concepts more deeply and retain knowledge longer. Hands-on experiences foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills, making learning engaging and relevant to real-world situations. From 15 July 2024, an intensive exploration of various scientific concepts for students from classes VI to XII took place. The event began with a Science Exhibition for classes VI to VIII, where the auditorium buzzed with excitement as students showcased their models based on scientific principles. The audience, including special guests from Samarpan School, were captivated, and every student presented their work with enthusiasm, receiving appreciation from peers, teachers, and the special guests. Students from classes VIII to XI enjoyed the second day, which was filled with lab demonstrations and activities focused on physics principles, chemical bonding, and human anatomy. Highlights included the Angry Birds catapult, an ice cream-making workshop, and engaging games that brought science to life. The excitement continued on the third day as students from classes IX to XII hosted an exhibition featuring working models such as a posture monitoring jacket, an electric rain display, a space gun, and an electric keyboard. Innovations like threads made from moringa and incense stubs from flower waste showcased the students’ creativity and ingenuity. The grand finale showcased extraordinary craftsmanship and scientific prowess by students of classes VI to XII. Classes XI and XII designed a thrilling car racing track incorporating concepts like friction and velocity. Class VII students created a fascinating crime scene activity, teaching peers about forensics. The day concluded with a paper plane challenge, leaving students eager for more science activities. This event highlighted the importance of experiential learning, making science engaging, practical, and immensely enjoyable for all students involved.

Immersive Learning – Student Parliament 2024

Political Science students of Classes XI and XII had the opportunity to be a member of the Student Parliament which was organized on 10 May 2024 in collaboration with PRS an Indian non-profit organisation involved in legislative research. The mock Parliament was conducted in two segments. The first half was a question hour where those students who were MPs grilled those who were ministers. In the second half, the students were divided into groups , given a stakeholder position on a fictional bill, ‘Regulation of e-commerce platforms 2024’ and given one hour of research time. They debated intensely, proposed amendments and passed the bill. The students were delighted to be a part of this enriching experience as it was an opportunity to go beyond the textbook. Their involvement could be seen in their intelligent questioning, their enthusiastic discussion and their loud ayes and nays. They were also filled with a sense of responsibility as future voters and possible politicians of the country. Will share for social media separately

Ninaad 2024 – Embracing Empowerment

Acid attack survivors urgently need support to rebuild their lives, with access to medical care, rehabilitation, and societal acceptance. Our help can provide hope and a chance for them to regain their confidence and independence. The Flawless Flaws campaign, one of our unique social outreach programmes , has worked tirelessly for this noble cause. Ninaad is where funds are raised and survivors are given an opportunity to feel accepted and empowered. Ninaad 6.0 on 11 May 2024 was marked by the compassion and generosity of the previous years, Parents and students came together to sing, dance or perform, teachers and Team Awwam alike were tirelessly involved and made it a memorable day for all concerned. From tiny tots reciting poems, to a father and son duo rendering a beautiful Rabindrasangeet, dance performances by students across grades Nursery to XII, a graceful hula hoop item, Ms Malovika’s dance, Mr Vaibhav’s music and Ms N Saroj (Dean Academics) singing Tagore’s melodious ‘Purano Shei Diner Katha.’ A Mizo song by students in traditional Mizo dress provided an insight into their culture and the song about being satisfied with what one has and the true definition of wealth conveyed an important message to all. The MCs, Kavya and Adya received loud cheers, as did all the performers. Team Awwam’s nukkad natak Azaad Bharat ki Ghulam Tasveer was met with laughter from the audience but also touched a deep emotional chord with the spectators when they saw what actually happened in one case of acid attack. The highlight of the day was the Survivor’s Fashion Show where five brave women walked the ramp in kaftans designed by designer Ms. Rupa Chaudhary and with makeup done by Ms. Saburi Chopra and Sonakshi Singh (student) Stalls with cakes made by a student, plants and planters etc also did brisk business with all profits going towards the medical expenses and training of the survivors. Ninaad is not only a beautiful way of supporting those who truly need a helping hand but also a day when everyone in the school comes together in support and empathy. 

Tech Titans Clash at Ordin@trix 2024

Ordin@trixKuriobots, the annual Inter School Technology fest, brought together tech enthusiasts from across the nation on May 9, 2024. Organized by Pyrotech Club in collaboration with Kurious Learning Labs, this year’s theme “Techvolve: Innovating for Impact” set the stage for a showdown of technological innovation. Featuring eight offline and one online event, with names like Synapse, Cyphernexus, and Quantalens, the competition showcased cutting-edge advancements in AI, IoT, and Robotics. With over 40 schools participating, and esteemed judges from various industries, including business, education, and technology, the event raised the bar with new categories such as AI-based business pitching and sumo bot fighting. Congratulations to Tagore International School, East of Kailash, for emerging as the overall winner, in a fiercely competitive demonstration of technological expertise.

Honouring Gurudev’s Legacy – Primary Wing Celebrates Rabindra Jayanti 2024

Rabindra Jayanti  was celebrated by the students of the Primary Wing  on  8 May 2024 with a blend of cultural activities, educational sessions, and artistic expressions, paying homage to Tagore’s rich legacy.The celebrations included a soul-stirring rendition of Rabindranath Tagore’s iconic song “Ekla Chalo”. Young learners engaged in a creative colouring activity, depicting Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore in vibrant hues. Enthusiastic young dancers showcased their skills, gracefully interpreting Tagore’s compositions through dance, thereby infusing the celebration with grace and melody. Through a hands-on activity inspired by Tagore’s poem ‘Paper Boats,’ students crafted paper boats using origami techniques. They then pasted their creations underneath the poem, symbolizing Tagore’s enduring legacy flowing through the currents of time.  Students were introduced to Tagore’s  famous short story ‘Kabuliwala’  through  a screening of the timeless classic   A comprehensive powerpoint presentation on the life and times of Gurudev  Rabindranath  Tagore was shown. Other students immersed themselves in Tagore’s timeless stories, exploring themes of love, compassion, and humanism. Subsequently, students reflected on some of these, constructing visual maps to understand key elements, thereby fostering critical thinking .This  harmonious blend of cultural performances, educational activities, and artistic expressions, highlighted Tagore’s relevance as a beacon of enlightenment and inspiration for generations to come.

Book Week Celebration

Igniting Creativity: A Conversation with Author Deepa Agarwal On May 3, 2024, students from Classes VII and IX were treated to an engaging author talk featuring Deepa Agarwal. Ms. Agarwal’s eloquent discussion on the intricacies of the writing process, peppered with personal anecdotes and literary insights, enraptured the audience. Throughout the session, students actively participated, posing insightful questions about character development, plot construction, and the journey to becoming a published author. Ms. Agarwal’s infectious passion for storytelling inspired the budding writers, encouraging them to delve into their own creative aspirations. This event provided an opportunity for students to directly engage with an accomplished author, fostering a deeper appreciation for literature and the craft of storytelling.

Bhangra Queens: Spreading Empowerment Through Dance

Bhangra Queens, a dynamic dance group dedicated to the revival of Bhangra, enthralled the audience in the school auditorium on 29 April 2024, as part of World Dance Day celebrations. Performing a vibrant medley of Punjabi dances, the troupe of seven women mesmerized students from Classes IV, V, and VI, inspiring them with their spirited performance. In addition to their captivating show, Bhangra Queens conducted a workshop for students, teaching them choreography to a popular Diljit Dosanjh song. The interactive session saw active participation, with some lucky students even chosen to perform on stage alongside the main artists. Emphasizing the importance of education, Bhangra Queens encouraged students to pursue knowledge alongside their passions, fostering a holistic approach to growth. The event showcased the group’s dedication to empowering young talents and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Bhangra.

Earth Day 2024 – Love The Earth As You Would Love Yourself

Treat the Earth with the same love you have for yourself Earth Day goes beyond being just a date; it serves as a reminder of our duty to safeguard and cherish our planet. Since its inception in 1970, Earth Day has transformed into a global movement that transcends boundaries, cultures, and beliefs. Students at TISVV have always been deeply committed to conservation. Across primary, middle, and senior classes, students commemorated the day with various activities.In Class I, students created headbands to express their concern for the environment. By using biodegradable materials, they became more aware of the importance of using resources wisely and reducing waste. They wrote a pledge and proudly wore the headbands all day. Class II watched a video about Versova Beach, Mumbai, and learned about ways to protect our planet. They made Earth Day badges and pledged to reduce the use of plastic bags. Class III engaged in crafting upcycled creations that promoted sustainability and environmental awareness, turning discarded materials into art. These hands-on activities helped them develop a deeper appreciation for Earth’s resources and the significance of reducing, reusing, and recycling. With a focus on promoting environmental stewardship, Class IV learned about nurturing and caring for living things by growing their own plant. Through poster making, they expressed their commitment to protecting the Earth and its resources, culminating in a pledge to take concrete actions to conserve the environment. Class V celebrated the wonders of nature by creating terrariums. They realized that even small actions can contribute to conserving our planet’s precious biodiversity. The students proudly displayed their terrariums, showcasing the beauty of nature and their dedication to its protection.Students from Classes VI to VIII participated in various activities, including quizzes, competitions, and talent shows at a special assembly held to mark the day. The school’s talented singers and dancers presented a beautiful performance highlighting the importance of responsible water consumption, using the exemplary architecture of Rajaon Ki Baoli as an example. Senior classes watched a specially created video that sparked lively class discussions. Teachers also wore artistic badges designed by members of the creative Art Club.The message was clear: Take care of the Earth, and she will take care of you.

Celebrating Exploring Our Rich Cultural Heritage: Students Design Stamp Celebrating Shillong on World Heritage Day

World Heritage Day, also known as International Day for Monuments and Sites, is celebrated on April 18  each year to honour and safeguard our cultural heritage. This year, the theme of World Heritage Day is ‘Discover and Experience Diversity.’ ITIHAAS ( a Trust promoting heritage, education and tourism and with the aim of  connecting  the paradigms of heritage with education)  organized a special inter school event  at the historic Purana Qila. Our team of five students Olivia Dey VIA, Saranya Khera VIIC, Amaira Singh VIIC, Faith Rinhlui Chongthu VIIIB and Vedant Bhardwaj VIIB  had to research any city in India, along with its monuments and other heritage sites and asked to design a stamp that represented the city they had researched. Selecting Shillong, the students created an original stamp to capture the unique culture of this beautiful hill-station. The judges interacted with the team to assess their understanding on the topic.  Our students won  a Special Mention and received certificates for the same.
