Empowering Voices at the International Day of the Girl Child

On 10 October  2024, our students had the privilege of attending the International Day of the Girl Child event at the India Habitat Centre. Organized by Girl Up India and the High Commission of Canada, the event focused on empowering girls through education, health, and leadership. Notable speakers included Patrick Hébert, Deputy High Commissioner of Canada, and Prachi Shevgaonkar, founder of the Cool the Globe App, who delivered impactful opening addresses. Kanta Singh from UN Women addressed gender-based violence, while Mini Varghese from Nutrition International highlighted the importance of nutrition for adolescent health. The session concluded with some motivational remarks from Aditi Arora, Country Director of Girl Up India, and Ian Trites, First Secretary of Political Affairs at the High Commission of Canada. Our students were even more inspired to advocate for positive change in their communities.

Dussehra 2024: Celebrating Victory of Good Over Evil

The school celebrated Dussehra on 8 October 2024 with great enthusiasm. The event began with an opening speech by Vrinda Arora and Prabhtej Singh, followed by a mesmerizing play performed by students of Classes VII and VIII, showcasing key scenes from the Ramayana. A lively dance performance by the school’s cultural group highlighted the diversity of Indian traditions. Principal Ms. Jyotika Jakhar addressed the students, encouraging them to reflect on the concepts of good and evil within themselves. The celebrations concluded with the symbolic Ravan Dahan, where an effigy of Ravana was burned, reinforcing the message of victory of good over evil. The event helped students renew their commitment to the values of truth, integrity, and righteousness.

Breaking Barriers: TIS Team Visits Garima Greh for Empowerment and Inclusion

On 7 October 2024, the Breaking Barriers team from Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar, visited Garima Greh, a shelter home for the transgender community run by the Mitr Foundation. Supported by human rights activist Rudrani Chhetri, the visit aimed to engage with the residents, understand their challenges, and create tailored skill development programs focusing on personality development, resume writing, and communication skills to enhance employability. Additionally, a “Super Positivity” session led by motivational speaker Mr. Vickrant Mahajan inspired the residents to embrace optimism and happiness in their daily lives. This meaningful interaction not only deepened understanding but also laid the groundwork for future empowerment programs, enabling the residents to achieve personal and professional growth .

Inspiring Positivity: Superpositivity Sessions at Tagore International School 

On 3 October 2024, Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar, hosted two highly engaging sessions on the philosophy of Superpositivity, led by Mr. Vickrant Mahajan. A celebrated motivational speaker and author, Mr. Mahajan introduced students to his empowering concept of Superpositivity, encouraging them to adopt a positive mindset.   In the first session, Mr. Mahajan shared his “7 Basic Questions” designed to promote self-reflection and a positive outlook on life. The interactive session inspired students to think deeply about gratitude, self-improvement, and positivity.  In the second session, four students trained by Mr. Mahajan led their peers through their own interpretations of Superpositivity. Their confidence and enthusiasm demonstrated how deeply they had embraced the philosophy, motivating their peers to do the same.  Both sessions left a lasting impact, fostering a positive atmosphere and empowering students to incorporate Superpositivity into their daily lives.

Empowering Futures: Author’s Talk with Dr. Shamouly Khera

Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar, hosted an insightful Author’s Talk with Dr. Shamouly Khera for students of Classes X and XI. Dr. Khera, a well-known TV presenter, media producer, and executive coach, introduced her latest book ‘Letters to the Daughters of Tomorrow’, which highlights the importance of breaking stereotypes and empowering women to realize their full potential.  Dr. Khera described today’s working women as the “transition generation,” emphasizing their pivotal role in shaping a more equitable future. Students engaged actively, asking thoughtful questions and reflecting on her message about feminism being a movement against prejudice, not a battle of genders. The session left students with a fresh perspective on gender equality and an inspiring vision for the future.

Confluence: A Gateway to the Right Career

Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar, hosted ‘Confluence: A Career Fair’ on 1 October 2024, designed to help students from classes IX to XII and theirparents explore diverse career options. The event featured over 40 universities from both India and abroad, providing detailed insights into career pathways,eligibility criteria, scholarships, and much more. Students eagerly visited various stalls, interacting with representatives to gather essential information and ideasfor their future career paths.The expert sessions were a key highlight, with distinguished speakers sharing invaluable insights. Ms. Jyotsna Bharadwaj, Educationist and Director of EnvisionIndia Eduservices, discussed emerging careers and the paradigm shift in career choices for students of classes XI-XII. Mr. Rajan Bhatia, an admission strategist, offered guidance to students of classes IX-X on acing entrance exams in India and abroad. Neha Malhotra, founder of the International Image ConsultingInstitute, inspired students with her talk on entrepreneurial success, while Ms. Rupali Verma, a seasoned education advisor, guided students on building arobust profile.The fair empowered students to make informed decisions about their academic and career journeys, showcasing their keen interest in gathering information fromvarious universities and career experts. 

Honouring Gandhi’s Legacy: Creative Gandhi Jayanti Activities  

On 1 October 2024, students of the Primary Wing  celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with a series of engaging and meaningful activities. Class II students began by watching a video on Mahatma Gandhi’s life and later crafted charkhas using bangles and ice cream sticks, symbolizing Gandhi’s values of simplicity and self-reliance.  Class III students created a Message Tree, sharing thoughts inspired by Gandhi’s teachings on peace and non-violence, while Class IV students made badges featuring symbols like the charkha and Gandhi’s glasses. They concluded their activity by taking a heartfelt non-violence pledge.  Class V took charge by organizing a special quiz on Gandhi’s life, principles, and role in India’s freedom struggle, showcasing leadership and teamwork. Each of these activities deepened the students’ appreciation for Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy and inspired them to uphold his values in their daily lives.

Bridging Communication through Sign Language: WeCare’s ISL Workshop 

On 30 September 2024, WeCare, the community outreach initiative at Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar, organized an enriching Indian Sign Language (ISL) workshop in collaboration with ‘V-Shesh.’ Led by Ms. Iva, the session introduced 50 students to the importance of non-verbal communication and inclusivity.  The workshop began with an insightful discussion on how communication fosters understanding in diverse communities. Ms. Iva highlighted the significance of sign language in bridging the gap between hearing and non-hearing individuals. Students learned essential ISL basics, such as greetings, numbers, and everyday phrases, with a fun finger-spelling activity where they practiced spelling their names using sign language. Students not only gained practical ISL skills but also a new perspective on inclusive communication, enhancing the school’s mission to foster empathy and connection through WeCare’s initiatives.

Igniting Scientific Curiosity: Foldscope Kits Distributed to Class VI  

On 30 September 2024, Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar took a remarkable step in promoting hands-on science learning by distributing DIY Foldscope kits to Class VI students. The Foldscope, a compact, paper-based microscope capable of magnifying objects up to 2,000 times, is designed to open young minds to the wonders of the microscopic world.   This initiative aimed to spark curiosity and ignite a passion for science by allowing students to explore and observe their environment in ways that traditional classroom settings cannot. The joy and amazement on the students’ faces were a testament to the powerful impact of this tool, which transforms science from theory into a real-world adventure. With the Foldscope, students are encouraged to ask questions, make discoveries, and engage in scientific exploration beyond textbooks, laying the foundation for a lifelong interest in the natural world.

S.O.C.H Members Gear Up for Heritage Walk at Firoz Shah Kotla

On 7 September 2024, the members of the Society of Caretakers of Heritage (S.O.C.H) attended a captivating session with a professional architect and heritage conservation expert, Ms. Nupur Bhatnagar. This insightful orientation aimed to begin training S.O.C.H members to conduct Heritage Walks at Firoz Shah Kotla in the upcoming months. The session sparked a deeper appreciation for Delh’s rich history and culture, preparing the students for their hands-on exploration. With enthusiasm building, the students are excited to apply their knowledge during the upcoming Heritage Walk at Firoz Shah Kotla, further enhancing their learning experience.
