Takofest, an inter-House kite-making competition for Classes VI-VIII, drew inspiration from Japan’s traditional Takomatsuri. With the theme ‘Cultural Harmony,’ students crafted kites adorned with symbols, colors, and motifs from diverse traditions, symbolizing unity in diversity. Gurpurab 2024 was celebrated with devotion and enthusiasm across the school, immersing students in the beautiful teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The event began with a student reciting the Mool Mantra, setting a serene tone for the Prabhat Pheri across the school campus. A documentary on Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s life was shared, imparting his timeless message of ‘One God’ and ‘eternal Truth,’ encouraging students to remember the divine in all aspects of life. Students also learned about the significance of langar and Guru Prasad, which symbolizes equality and community service. Many students contributed homemade Prashad, which was shared among classmates and staff, fostering a sense of togetherness and respect. On 22 October 2024, students from our school had the privilege of attending an enriching session at the Hindustan Times Lit Fest. The event featured an engaging Author Talk by Ms. Sutapa Basu, an acclaimed children’s author, who shared insights on the art of storytelling and the importance of curiosity in writing. Students had the unique opportunity to interact with Ms. Basu, ask questions, and gain valuable knowledge from her experiences, inspiring them to explore new literary horizons. Additionally, Class VI students participated in a Slogan Writing Competition, showcasing their creativity and enthusiasm in a fun and competitive atmosphere. The event was instrumental in fostering a love for reading and creative expression among the students. Lively arguments and quick-thinking filled the auditorium on 16 October 2024, when the much-anticipated inter-house competition, Devil’s Advocate: Turncoat Debate took place.This event tested not only the participants’ debating skills but also their ability to switch sides at a moment’s notice, challenging their wit and adaptability. The motions debated by the participants included “Should zoos be banned?” and “Should the voting age be lowered to 16?”. The speakers showcased their skills, with compelling arguments and smooth transitions. The event concluded with Shanti placing first and Ekta placing second. Empowering the Specially Abled at the “Run for Inclusion” On 9 November 2024, 37 enthusiastic students and two teachers from our school proudly participated in the “Run for Inclusion” organized by Special Olympics Bharat at Nehru Park, New Delhi. The marathon, open to participants from all walks of life, began at 7 a.m. with MP Mr. Manoj Tiwari flagging off the eventand delivering an inspiring speech that motivated the young runners. The students were also encouraged by Ms. Bansuri Swaraj, MP, who joined the event later, further boosting their morale. This inclusive run aimed to spread awareness and foster a sense of unity among diverse groups, embodying the values of teamwork and community that our school strongly upholds.
On 9 November 2024, 88 students from Class VIII, accompanied by 10 teachers, attended the remarkable son-et-lumiere show at the Red Fort. This unique sound and light production, against the majestic backdrop of the iconic Nahabat Khana, Diwan –e Aam and Diwan –e Khas, featuring live actors, music and dance combined with state-of-the-art digital art technology, brings India’s history to life in a vivid spectacle. The one-hour show unfolded in three parts, covering iconic episodes, from Shah Jahan’s troubled rule, the rise of the Marathas, the 1857 War of Independence to the struggles of the Indian National Army. Students were captivated by portrayals of the Mughal emperors, and more recent leaders like Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Jawaharlal Nehru. The experience concluded with the national anthem, evoking a deep sense of national pride. The immersive show offered students an engaging look at India’s cultural legacy, reinforcing the school’s commitment to learning beyond textbooks.
On 11 November 2024, as part of Japan Week, an inspiring Ikebana workshop was organized for parents. Led by Syama Balbir, India’s first Master of the Ohara School of Ikebana, the workshop began with an introduction to the art and philosophy of Ikebana, exploring its deep cultural roots in Japan. Parents then engaged in creating their own floral arrangements, embracing the principles of balance, harmony, and minimalism. This hands-on experience offered a chance to explore creativity while immersing oneself in the mindfulness and simplicity that defines Japanese floral art.
On 9 November 2024, a workshop on Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) was organised at Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar, for parents of students from Classes IX to XII. Conducted by a team from the NGO Pratisandhi, the session addressed essential aspects of teenage psycho-sexual development, providing insights into typical behaviors and common myths surrounding CSE. Parents learned practical strategies for fostering open communication, becoming “askable” figures who create a supportive, non-judgmental environment for their children. The workshop also covered approaches to common teen issues, offering parents confidence in guiding discussions around this sensitive topic. A concluding Q&A session allowed parents to address their queries directly, leaving them with valuable tools to navigate and support their children’s growth effectively.
On 18 October 2024, the ‘Persona Parade’ intra-class competition for Kindergarten offered young students the opportunity to proudly display their creativity by portraying their favorite cartoon characters. Adorned in vibrant costumes, they enthusiastically brought to life beloved figures such as Peppa Pig, Batman, Doraemon, and Elsa. The event encouraged imagination and boosted confidence as the children entertained their peers with dynamic performances. Filled with cheer, applause, and excitement, the competition was a truly memorable experience for both the budding performers and their audience.
