Treat the Earth with the same love you have for yourself Earth Day goes beyond being just a date; it serves as a reminder of our duty to safeguard and cherish our planet. Since its inception in 1970, Earth Day has transformed into a global movement that transcends boundaries, cultures, and beliefs. Students at TISVV have always been deeply committed to conservation. Across primary, middle, and senior classes, students commemorated the day with various activities.In Class I, students created headbands to express their concern for the environment. By using biodegradable materials, they became more aware of the importance of using resources wisely and reducing waste. They wrote a pledge and proudly wore the headbands all day. Class II watched a video about Versova Beach, Mumbai, and learned about ways to protect our planet. They made Earth Day badges and pledged to reduce the use of plastic bags. Class III engaged in crafting upcycled creations that promoted sustainability and environmental awareness, turning discarded materials into art. These hands-on activities helped them develop a deeper appreciation for Earth’s resources and the significance of reducing, reusing, and recycling. With a focus on promoting environmental stewardship, Class IV learned about nurturing and caring for living things by growing their own plant. Through poster making, they expressed their commitment to protecting the Earth and its resources, culminating in a pledge to take concrete actions to conserve the environment. Class V celebrated the wonders of nature by creating terrariums. They realized that even small actions can contribute to conserving our planet’s precious biodiversity. The students proudly displayed their terrariums, showcasing the beauty of nature and their dedication to its protection.Students from Classes VI to VIII participated in various activities, including quizzes, competitions, and talent shows at a special assembly held to mark the day. The school’s talented singers and dancers presented a beautiful performance highlighting the importance of responsible water consumption, using the exemplary architecture of Rajaon Ki Baoli as an example. Senior classes watched a specially created video that sparked lively class discussions. Teachers also wore artistic badges designed by members of the creative Art Club.The message was clear: Take care of the Earth, and she will take care of you.
World Heritage Day, also known as International Day for Monuments and Sites, is celebrated on April 18 each year to honour and safeguard our cultural heritage. This year, the theme of World Heritage Day is ‘Discover and Experience Diversity.’ ITIHAAS ( a Trust promoting heritage, education and tourism and with the aim of connecting the paradigms of heritage with education) organized a special inter school event at the historic Purana Qila. Our team of five students Olivia Dey VIA, Saranya Khera VIIC, Amaira Singh VIIC, Faith Rinhlui Chongthu VIIIB and Vedant Bhardwaj VIIB had to research any city in India, along with its monuments and other heritage sites and asked to design a stamp that represented the city they had researched. Selecting Shillong, the students created an original stamp to capture the unique culture of this beautiful hill-station. The judges interacted with the team to assess their understanding on the topic. Our students won a Special Mention and received certificates for the same.
TIS, VV, in partnership with Pratisandhi, conducted sex education sessions for Classes VI and VIII. These sessions addressed emotional changes during puberty, providing insights and navigation strategies. Students learned to cope with peer pressure, understand attraction, and share feelings healthily. For class VIII, topics like rejection were sensitively handled, emphasizing healthy boundaries and consent understanding. Practical activities empowered students to safeguard their emotional well-being. For Class VI, emotional aspects of physical changes were explored, fostering understanding and providing coping mechanisms. Open dialogue and active participation created a supportive environment for students’ holistic growth.
Students of class VII discovered the fascinating world of taste buds and uncovered the mysteries of taste perception on Thursday, 25 April 2024 Using disposable spoons students applied various taste samples, including sweet, salty, sour, and bitter, to specific regions of the tongue. By exploring the presence of different taste buds on various areas of the tongue, students developed a better understanding of how we experience flavors. It was a joyful sensory journey to unravel the secrets of taste
Yellow evokes a sense of warmth, joy, fun and energy. The little ones in Nursery revealed in a special day dedicated entirely to this vibrant hue. Dressed in all the different shades and tints of the sunshiny colour, they were seen engaged in a variety of colour-themed activities all related to the cheerful pigment, be it with yellow crayons in the worksheet, singing rhymes about it or constructing edifices with yellow building blocks. What a happy way of learning to recognize colours!
The Class IV Intra- Class English poetry recitation competition on 24 April 2024 was based on the themes of ‘kindness, courage, and friendship’ and much enjoyed by everyone present. Students from all sections took part with enthusiasm, infusing their recitations with both emotion and eloquence. Versify demonstrated that poetry can both inspire and bring youngsters together in a spirit of healthy competition. On 22 April 2024, the stage pulsed with the captivating voices of our young poets of Class I at the Intra-Class Little Bards (English Poem Recitation) Competition. The poems were based on two delightful themes ‘Spreading Smiles’’ and My Good Friend. The young poets charmed the audience not only with their heartfelt recitations and creativity but also a variety of props, each carefully chosen to complement their theme. The event left a lasting impression, inspiring both listeners and participants to nurture their love for poetry and creativity. A sanitary pad donation drive was held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, by the members of Girl Up Tisvv and The Interact Club of Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar. The students collected over 5000 pads with a targeted 100 beneficiaries in mind. They met with the women of the Bhavarsingh Camp with the aim of helping to eradicate the use of rags during their menstrual cycles and shedding light on topics like Toxic Shock Syndrome. Our students began with a briefing about the harmful effects of rags, the usage of pads, taboos, and myths surrounding the topic, and the importance of women’s menstrual health to prevent diseases. Afterwards, they donated the pads to the women at the camp. It was an unforgettable lesson in empathy for our students, helping them to understand the many ways in which we can help create a more progressive society
Sehpaathi’s commitment to education was on display during the second session held at the school premises on April 20, 2024, for the students of Jagriti NGO. Renowned author and poet, Ms. Sheryl Madan, led a captivating storytelling session featuring the tale, “All Summer In A Day”. With attentive listening and support from our volunteers, the 20 students immersed themselves in the story, showcasing their comprehension skills and creativity by offering their interpretations of the ending. The session continued with Digital Literacy lessons, focusing on Microsoft Word. As a gesture of encouragement, Team Sehpaathi provided refreshments, along with a copy of the storybook and a worksheet for further practice at home, fostering ongoing engagement and learning.
‘By voting we add our voice to the chorus that forms opinions and a basis for actions’. Tagore International School,Vasant Vihar conducted elections for the post of Class Representative across Classes VI-XII on 24,April 2024 using electronic voting machines (EVMs) – definitely a first for most school students ! The initiative provided students with a firsthand experience of democratic processes. Using the EVMs created by science students and the Science faculty, student-voters cast their votes electronically, exactly mirroring the procedures of actual elections. This hands-on approach not only familiarized them with technological advancements but also instilled a sense of responsibility and civic duty. Students actively engaged in campaigning, debates, and voting, simulating a real-world electoral environment. The process emphasized transparency, fairness, and the importance of informed decision-making.
