The young kindergarteners enjoyed drawing and colouring a Christmas scene in their own individual styles. Their vivid and imaginative compositions were a source of joy to all who saw them. It is often said that in the kitchen, we find not just ingredients, but possibilities, and the Culinary and Baking Skill Club students from classes VI to VIII, recently, discovered just that during an engaging cupcake-making and presentation activity. Guided by mentors, students immersed themselves in the entire baking process, turning cupcakes into personalized edible masterpieces with vibrant frosting and decorations. Amid laughter and shared ideas, the event cultivated a supportive community where each student felt valued.
In the exciting world of scientific exploration, our students recently shone at the ‘Everyday Science’ Contest, brilliantly organized by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell. This unique competition, challenging participants to creatively present science concepts, showcased the students’ ability to unveil the science in their surroundings. From captivating experiments to engaging presentations, our budding scientists met the challenge head-on, seamlessly blending the spirit of ‘Everyday Science’ with a touch of Bollywood in the realm of Thermodynamics. This journey beautifully highlighted the boundless possibilities that arise at the crossroads of knowledge and imagination. two outstanding teams, featuring Tanisha and Atharv Gaur, as well as Yasir and Srikrithi, have earned their place in the highly anticipated finale set for February 2024. Ever imagined turning the theoretical journey of “Separation of Substances” into a thrilling hands-on adventure? The grade VI students did just that by diving into the world of Science, armed with curiosity and their Science kits. No dusty textbooks here—just the sheer joy of handpicking, sieving, and winnowing to unravel mixtures! This learning-by-doing escapade wasn’t just about reinforcing theory; it was an immersive exploration that brought scientific processes to life. Beyond the classroom’s four walls, this class celebrated the power of practical, fun learning experiences.
Picture a learning experience where the mysteries of acids and bases are unlocked not in textbooks but through the enchantment of everyday items… And the seventh graders did just that in their Science class. The task at hand involved deciphering the acidic or basic properties of household substances like toothpaste, detergent, vinegar, lemon juice, and baking soda. Turmeric paper, acting as a pH indicator, transformed this exploration into a vibrant spectacle. Taking the learning experience a step further, students seamlessly integrated art into their scientific endeavor using turmeric paper as a canvas, creating drawings with a soap solution. The chemical interaction, rooted in the basic nature of the solution, added an artistic dimension to the exploration, showcasing the power of multidisciplinary approaches and the fusion of learning, fun and art beyond the confines of traditional classrooms.
On 12 December 2023, Breaking Barriers hosted a session on enhancing the representation of LGBT+ individuals in corporate India by Srini Ramaswamy, co-founder of Pride Circle The session talked about the 100 Queer Intern Program, India Work Equality Index and Reimagining Inclusion for Social Equity, all designed to provide inclusive internship opportunities for LGBT+ students. The interactive session left an indelible mark on the student community, fostering a heightened sense of empowerment and awareness.
On December 21, 2023, the core team of Breaking Barriers had the privilege of engaging in a virtual dialogue with Axis Bank’s inclusion and diversity team. Centered around the theme of ‘Inclusion of the Young,’ the session featured team members sharing insights on cultivating an inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ individuals in both educational institutions and the corporate realm. The session took on a lighthearted and comfortable tone as participants shared personal coming-out experiences and real-life stories. Thought-provoking questions were posed, delving into how the campaign addresses challenges like homophobia from parents or peers. The Axis Bank team offered valuable guidance on supporting LGBTQ+ friends and community members, emphasizing the significance of active, open-minded, and open-hearted listening free from personal bias. This collaborative exchange not only left our students enlightened but also inspired to persist in our endeavors to create a more inclusive and supportive space for the LGBTQIA+ community.
On December 20, 2023, Project Sehpaathi orchestrated a meaningful session with the Pehchaan Street School centered around the theme, ‘How To Be A Changemaker.’ The session featured the esteemed presence of Mr. Akash Tandon, the founder of The Pehchaan Street School, and Ms. Kashish Kehlawani, the Project Director. This interactive exchange aimed to enlighten students about the significance of social work while raising awareness about the challenges faced by under-represented children in our society. Tagore International School Vasant Vihar students participated in the Annual Poster Making Competition at Nehru Planetarium, held on December 4, 2023, in collaboration with ORGAN India and NOTTO. The theme, “Transforming Lives,” prompted students to creatively express the impact of organ donation. Team AWAAM from our school was also invited to present their play ‘Ahsaas,’ fostering empathy and understanding among participants from various schools. The concurrent poster-making competition visually showcased students’ creativity, amplifying the event’s impact in promoting organ donation awareness. Yana Sapra, a Class XIB student, excelled and secured the third prize among 40 participating schools. The event not only encouraged creative expression but also fostered a sense of responsibility toward organ donation within the student community. The day concluded with students enjoying a show at the Sky Theatre, creating a wholesome and enjoyable experience.
