Observing Constitution Day on 26 November 2020

Constitution Day, also known as ‘Samvidhan Divas’, is celebrated in our country on 26 November every year to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. On 26 November 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of India, which came into effect from 26th January 1950.

To celebrate the occasion with enthusiasm and to encourage self-introspection, students were shown a video(Mrs. & Mr. Kripalani read from former Chief Justice Leila Seth’s work written especially for children: 𝘞𝘦, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘐𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘢 (Puffin, 2010) ) to explain in simple language the essence of what the constitution stands for and what does the Preamble mean. Teachers held discussions with the students on a very pertinent question ‘Are we living by it (the Constitution)?’ and how students can contribute in ensuring that the lofty ideals mentioned in the Preamble to the Constitution are abided by.

Students shared their responses on Google Jamboard.

Preamble in English and Hindi was read out aloud with the students and brainstorming was done on the interpretation of the same.
